Distance Reiki - does it work?

Have you heard of “distance” or “remote” Reiki? or “remote healing” and wondered how it can possibly work?

I know that when I first began my Reiki journey, although I’d had great results and experiences with in person Reiki, I really questioned the validity of distance Reiki. As a natural skeptic, but with an open mind, that’s exactly how I approached it. With curiosity and an open mind, but without any certainty that it could “work”. I was quickly converted to being a believer. I’m a very experiential practitioner. It’s only my own direct experience that I can and will implicitly trust. So, when I offered distance Reiki, I was reliant upon feedback.

One of my first clients was a colleagues' mum. She’d been experiencing excrutiating shoulder pain, and as a result had been unable to sleep for a few nights. My colleague later informed me that not long into the session, her mum had fallen asleep. As we’d scheduled the session for evening, she was able to stay sleeping, and in fact slept right through the night. When she woke in the morning she was pain free. I know that I can’t claim that it was the Reiki, but, given it was the only thing that had been done differently, was it a coincidence? I didn’t think so.

A friend was having surgery and I asked if I could do distance Reiki to speed the recovery process. It was agreed to, and I called the hospital to get the time of the surgery. I facilitated a distance healing both prior to and following the surgery, and then followed up with an additional session the following day. In his words, the nurses couldn’t believe how quickly he recovered. The surgeon referred to it as “miraculous”. I asked if he let the surgeon know about the Reiki, and he hadn’t. He didn’t believe in it himself, but had apparently gone along with my request as “it couldn’t hurt”. And this is true of any Reiki session. It does no harm! I asked about this “miraculous" healing/recovery and he told me, it was his own body doing the healing. This is perfectly true, as Reiki is only aiding the body to do what it can innately do - but in this case, this friend wasn’t in very good health and although he wasn’t able to give any credit to the “Reiki”, I felt that I had all the proof that I needed.

I have a great many "success" stories that I can attribute to Reiki, and it’s been shown to me that whether it’s in person, or at a distance, Reiki “works” just the same.

In the “field” of Reiki, or energy, we are and all is connected. So when we connect into this space of non separation, it "makes sense” to me that it isn’t different. It can just be a bit more of a challenge to get our head around it… but as with many things, science has shown that it catches up to what the Sages have known for Aeons! and I trust that we'll eventually get the research to back this up too.
